Once on the main roads the drive out to Eyam was straightforward enough amid beautiful snow covered scenes, but only 2 of us enjoyed it!
We did the round in near perfect conditions with snow underfoot, blue skies, all round views and only a handful of other walkers . The snow and frozen conditions helped in some areas, but added problems in others!
The climb up from Stoke Ford to Big Moor Plantation was the usual pull, but crossing the Plantation with deep snow and heather proved a challenge. The path was indiscernible with footprints leading everywhere. In the end we followed the wall alongside Eyam Moor which led us to the bottom end of the Sir William Hill track. After this the going was easy and on the descent to Eyam we were treated to some lovely evening light filtering through the trees.
A pint in “the Miners Arms” rounded off a perfect day.
