Five of us (including a plucky Norfolk terrier, the clear team leader) set off on a brilliant blue sky day, butterflies flitting across the meadow and the sweat dripping off us by 8.20 in the morning…. ahh, yes, maybe that was another day….Up Winn Hill via Twitchill Farm from Hope, not needing waterproofs until past Hope Cross. Poor visibility until soon after Edale Cross (‘Have we passed Ringing Roger yet?’) but comfortably mild, with lots of water especially crossing the cloughs. One of our group leapt with enthusiasm across the path near Brown Knoll straight into a bog, luckily rescued by his dog collar and had to be thoroughly washed in a handy ‘dog bath’.
As promised, beautiful views from Cowburn air shaft onwards across the whole majestic vista, topped off with damp biscuits on Rushup Edge where final layers of leggings were removed, some complaining ‘It’s too hot!’
After seeing hardly anyone all day, Mam Tor was its usual tourist high spot, but once along the home straight it was relatively quiet again as we yomped down from Lose Hill, putting the world to rights, talking inevitably about …food!
Thanks for a fun day out on a glorious summer’s day. (Sadly, no butterflies spotted).
