The last of this autumn’s series of Eagle Ski Club lectures at the Sir William in Grindelford will be given by Huw Kingston. Huw will be talking about his 700km traverse of the Australian Alps, on ski and foot, in the southern winter of 2022. His presentation will highlight not just the journey but will also celebrate the backcountry and the alpine communities that have suffered so much in recent years from pandemic and bushfire. It also looks at the threats to this unique 1% of the Australian continent – from climate change, from feral animals, and us humans. Some CMC members may remember the inspiring lecture Huw gave at Hallam University in 2017 about his self-propelled (paddle, foot, bicycle and oar) circumnavigation of the Mediterranean Sea. Huw was brought up in Sheffield (and was briefly a Castle Club member in the 1980s), but has lived in Australia for over 30 years, and more information about his activities can be found at http://www.huwkingston.com
CMC members and others are welcome to attend. Tickets are £3 (or £5 on the door) and a pie and peas supper (must be booked in advance) is available for £12. Booking at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-700km-traverse-of-the-australian-alps-by-huw-kingston-tickets-1071542706079
