Meet at 9.30 am at the car park above Mill Dale Grid Ref 136547.
In accordance with the Peak Park’s new charging regime this former free car park is now pay & display with a charge of £4.75 for all day (N.B. card only)..
From the car park a short ascent leads to the path into Hall Dale which leads down to and joins Dove Dale by the iconic Ilam Rock pinnacle.Dove Dale is then followed to the stepping stones below Thorpe Cloud from where we have the option of ascending to the Cloud’s summit with approx 490 feet of ascent-in the current conditions rather muddy and slippery.
Continuing from the foot of Thorpe Cloud we take a traversing path to gain the col below Bunster Hill which is then ascended steeply (approx 390 feet) . After Bunster we continue to Air Cottage and Dove Dale Woods from where a steep descent leads to the foot of Hall Dale.Crossing the nearby Bridge the top section of Dove Dale leads past impressive caves to the village of Mill Dale and back to the car park.
Distance approx 8 miles but with a steep ascent of approx 390 feet-880 if Thorpe Cloud is included (guesstimates as my map app is currently not functioning).
Please let me know if you are planning to come.
N.B. In view of the distance and car parking charges-car sharing would be sensible.I can offer 3 places in my car. Please contact me if you want to book one of the places.
    See you there.
