Doune Castle Mountain Club walked from Doune Castle to the Peak District, and…..
caught the bus back. In lovely warm sunshine today (Monday), the two members of Doune Castle Mountaineering Club set off for the Peak (the sports centre in Stirling). Following delightful country lanes and less delightful urban streets, the intrepid “mountaineers” arrived at the Peak, covering the 10.5 miles in around 4 hours. Hunger for paths rather than roads led to the only “adventure” – an unmapped path was taken following the River Allan towards the River Forth. However, insurmountable obstacles prevented access to the road at the required point. Fortunately, a friendly householder opened her garden gates, and a lengthy detour was avoided.
So, that’s a contribution of 21 miles on the opening day of the 50th Challenge Walking Week, with an outing that, hopefully, satisfied all the rigorous challenge criteria!
