Chew Valley – 30th, 31st July.
You can come for the day – or stay for the weekend.
If you want to stay for Friday or Saturday night –
camping is at Well-i-Hole Farm, Greenfield, https://www.well-i-holefarm.co.uk/
tel:01457 600208. You need to book. I’ve booked on for Saturday night, but may go on Friday too if the weather is good. A lot to go at.
Climbing is on:
Dovestones Edge: ‘The finest crag in the Chew area for low to mid-grade routes’ 40 climbs Dovestones Quarry: including Black and White Traverse, a 120m three pitch rising traverse, hvd. The closets grit gets to a mountaineering experience.
Rob’s Rocks: a great cluster of shorter climbs, diff to VS
Wimberry: slightly harder stuff – some classics. Great bouldering.
Alderman’s Rocks.
Ravenstones and Standing Stones are other options.
Scrambling: Wilderness Gully – just about the best scramble of its grade in the Peak. Better with a bit of water in it.
On the 30th or 31st, meet at Dove Stone Reservoir car park [tea van and toilets, pay and display], (SE 013035). Meet 9.0am by the toilets. It gets busy.
Walking options include Black Hill, and train from Greenfield to Marsden and back over Black Hill. On Sunday – walk back over to Crowden if you can arrange a lift home.
More coordination of climbing and lifts via what’s ap.
