Rather late notice but if anyone would like to join me, I am intending cycling the Cuckoo Way (Chesterfield Canal) tomorrow. Starting from our house, cycling on back routes to the start near Chesterfield station, and catching the train back from Gainsborough Lea Road. Trainfare without discount £13.10. Canal distance approx. 46 miles. Plus a couple of miles extra at the ends – so reckon on about 50 miles total. Various food and drink stops on the way – but may have to do a bit of hunting for them. 10 am start, but tea and coffee before start if a bit early. Info on the internet – http://www.chesterfield-canal-trust.org.uk/off-the-water/walking-and-cycling/cycling-the-full-length-of-the-chesterfield-canal/ Trail / mountain bikes probably best.

I’ve just realised the last six miles from the end of the canal to the station is virtually all on major roads, unless you want to swim across the Trent. And the train back to Chesterfield takes around 90 minutes – so not an early finish.
