At the allotted hour of 10.30 6 members left the centre of Combs and headed upwards to Castle Naze with glorious views over the valley below. In sunny but blustery conditions we followed Combs Edge, stopping for a brief snack by an un-named building.
A descent, boggy in places, followed and a steady climb to the white Hall centre- beyond which we stopped for lunch with a grand view of the Goyt valley and Errwood Reservoir.
A short walk along the roadside to Rake End led to the bridleway leading up to Longhill Farm where the meet leader located an unorthodox short cut down the hill side to join the disused railway leading to Goyt Lane.More unorthodox route finding avoided the road to Errwood Reservoir and we were soon leaving the Goyt behind and traversing above Cathay Wood. From there a short ascent led to Old Road and Wythen Lache.
Descending to Combs we all stopped on the summit of an unamed hill but which was a stunning vantage point over the whole area .
Entering the village the meet leader,in a fit of rashness, bought a round in “The Bee Hive”to mark the end of a great day in a particularly attractive corner of the Peaks.
