KeymasterI’m planning a longish (23 miles) walk with a bunch of scrambles thrown in for good measure. There are shorter options!
Starting in Castleton the excitement begins straight away with an ascent of the Winnats Elbow Ridge, grade 3 (easy to avoid if you don’t fancy it).
We’ll then head over to Kinder downfall via Barber Booth & Upper Booth to the second big scramble (again avoidable if needed) by dropping down into the downfall and then back up Arpeggio Gully (grade 3).
At this point the walk can take a shorted route back to Castleton (about 14 miles total) or an even shorter route of around 12 miles. I’m shouting out for a second meet leader to take the short route back, to get in touch if you can take this on.???
For people wanting to do the full round, its then over to the Red Brooks scrambles (one down and one up) and then head down Fair Brook to the A57 and the Snake Inn. From here its pretty much south all the way taking in Blackden Brook & Ringing Roger. Total ascent for the full round is ~1,730m.An early start, 7am from Castleton so we can hit the ridge before traffic starts to build.
Let me know if you are coming and also if you can help lead the shorter route.
Cheers

ParticipantSounds a great idea, but too much for me at the moment.
However my son is planning Long Distance Walkd this summer, Nottingham yo Newark 25 miles to start.
He is a past CMC, member, both climbing and walking..
Would you consider letting him join you if date fits?

KeymasterHi Paul,
Sure that will be fine although I’m not 100% sure on the club rules now – is it still the case you have to fill in a prospective member form before attending an official meet?
Either way it is fine by me for him to tag along.March 26, 2025 at 5:10 pm #23911Kial Wright
KeymasterReminder for Sundays walk and scramble. I’ve attached maps of 3 versions ranging from 12 to 23 miles to the walking WhatsApp group.
Don’t forget the clocks go forward on Sunday.
We’ll meet outside the visitors centre in Castleton at 7.30am (I’ve made it half hour later with the clock change).
Let me know if you are coming so we don’t set off without you
