Things looked murky first thing, but 8 of us managed to park successfully by the Ladybower viaduct-the last arrival (Leon) only just squeezing in so the early start proved the right thing to do.
As we quickly gained height the weather slowly got better with good all round views.
The ridge was followed to Back Tor where a short coffee break allowed the party to regroup. We then descended slightly to Lost Lad and then descended in earnest towards Derwent Reservoir crossing the moors to Hollin Clough.Half way down the Clough ,however,a small traversing line was followed with a slippery gate to negotiate and after a further traverse a steep descent to the reservoir road.Crossing the road we continued the descent through woods with strange models of animals lurking in the undergrowth1
Lunch was taken at Fairhomes where we rendez voued with Ali.
After lunch Andrew & Ali followed the damside path back to the Ladybower viaduct, while the remaining 7 climbed to the Lockerbrook centre where we took the Haute Route over Bridge-end Pasture and past Crook Hill before the descent to the viaduct.
The early morning murk had by now been replaced by a blue skye and sunshine, making the effort more than worthwhile.
