Walk report

Eleven of us (+ Poppy) set off from the centre of Hartington for what proved to be a classic 6.6 mile walk. After passing the remnants of the cheese factory we climbed up to the uplands and views of the south of the Peak District started to unfold. They got even better as the whole party dug deep and managed to summit Sheen Hill from which fabulous 360 degree views were enjoyed. Refreshments were taken on top of the hill before descent was made to the ancient fortification site of Pilsbury Castle. Following lunch a steady climb took us to a broad ridge with the River Dove twinkling below. Looking back in the direction of Buxton and over the distinctive profiles of the hills of Chrome and Parkhouse the clouds had gathered and soon the party was hit by a rain storm. This only lasted for 15 minutes and though clothes were dampened spirits certainly were not as the party strode down the final lane back to the start of a memorable walk.
