CMC Thursday walk 22 January 2015 – Report
Just 5 members assembled in Bradwell. We headed out of the village on Tophole
Road. The weather was cloudy, windless, and a bit misty, with the temperature
hovering about zero. There were several inches of fresh snow on the ground. A
path across fields and several icy stiles took us via Coplow Dale and Little
Hucklow to the Anchor road. After a short distance heading south on the road we
turned right and walked up to the top of Tideslow, marked by a radio mast. There
is normally a good view from here but not today. We took the opportunity for a
coffee break before descending to the road. The route went up the road to Bushey
Heath Farm, east along Forest Lane and northwest along the old walled lane along
the top of Hucklow Moor. A stroll along here took us to the highest point of the
walk (1475ft). Lunch was taken at the top of a nearby old mineshaft. We wandered
down Bradwell Moor to join Batham Gate, the old Roman Road. Continuing down Green
Dale and New Road (walled green lane, but not green today) led to Outlands
Quarry from which a short downhill path took us back to the start. Tea was
enjoyed, with home made cakes and hot buttered crumpets. 7 miles 1050 ft of
ascent. Andy.
