A party of six met at the Foolow duck pond, and it was nice to welcome John and Kathy and their dog Poppy to their first Thursday walk.
We set off in warm sunshine over the fields to Eyam, taking the footpath at the side of the Church which gradually climbed out of the village. A field of alpacas looked decidedly jaded in the heat. Our first stop was taken in the last of the shade, with a glorious view over Eyam and the countryside beyond. Onwards and upwards past Ladywash Mine and onto the old road over Sir William Hill, with spectacular views all round.
We descended to Nether Bretton and continued down into the clough. We took lunch in the shade of a tree amongst the bluebells. A short steep climb brought us onto Hucklow Edge, and as we descended we admired more carpets of bluebells. A further stop was unanimously approved, and we basked in the sun whilst watching the gliders circling high above.
A short walk returned us to our starting point, after a warm but pleasant 6.2 miles. Thanks for your company.
Sean.
