18 people and 1 dog met in distinctly chilly conditions by the entrance to White Edge Lodge. 1 went cycling, 17 set off at a fast pace over White Edge Moor trying to warm up. The dog seemed warm enough. Dropping down towards the Grouse saw us out of the wind and conditions brightening a little, however the planned coffee stop above Tedgness Quarry was relocated into the shelter of the quarry, almost losing the majority of the group. A slower stroll through Oaks Wood led us to the steps down to the road and across into Padley Gorge then onto Bolehill Quarry where we lunched by the ruins of the headgear for the incline. Walking below Lawrencefield we then crossed the road to zig zag up below Millstone and out at Surprise View. The leader having foolishly held the gate we then went a little off course until control was regained below ‘Frog Rock’ and the party made their way to Longshaw Lodge via Granby Barn. Having insisted on walking round behind the Lodge in the hope that one of the group knew for certain which of 2 possibilities was Little John’s Well I was left with no definite answer.
6.8 miles. Thanks for the company.
