10 members plus one small dog set off from Little Longstone, crossing fields to Great Longstone then taking road and path up to Longstone Edge, where views back southwards were extensive. Continuing north we crossed the rakes and gained views northwards. A N-S wall provided shelter for a coffee stop, though the crop of thistles limited choice of seat and caused some grumbling. After a couple of fields (including one rented out for “events”) we turned left to walk down through the old mine workings (including grid-covered one deep shaft) to Wardlow. The old track to Cressbrookdale took us to a lunch stop overlooking the dale, where Rosy managed to put more names in her little book. Down the dale we went to Cressbrook mill, then across the river to the Monsal trail and up to Monsal head where a final stop again provided magnificent views. 7.5 miles and a grand day out, thanks to all.
