Meeting at 11 o’clock at the duck pond in Hartington. Map reference 127605. There are various places to park around the village.
Our route heads across fields, uphill and through a wood to skirt Sheen village. Sheen Hill is an optional extra which gives great views from the top, weather permitting! We then drop down into the valley following a stream, to arrive at Pilsbury castle for a lunch stop.
Pilsbury castle was built in 11th century on the site of an ironage fort. It occupies a strategic position above the river Dove. It had a motte and three baileys but very little remains except earthworks and a mound.
The return to Hartington is via a path above the river Dove. Six and a half miles approximately.
Hope to see you there.
