12 members gathered in sunshineby the frozen duck pond in Hartington. The route led across fields skirting a small housing development. Reaching a cross roads with the path to Sheen, and after a failed tussle with technology, the group turned right heading uphill. The steep uphill path was made more difficult by encroaching gorse bushes which had been flattened by recent snow.
After a short walk along a quiet road we detoured up to Sheen Hill where the recently painted trig point gleamed in the sunshine. A late coffee break was taken on the top with excellent views of the surrounding countryside.
Retracing our steps to follow a muddy footpath down to Pilsbury we had lunch overlooking Pilsbury Castle, an iron age fort. This gave the leader a chance to sort out the technical problems, i.e. turn on location!
From here we climbed up to the ridge to follow an easy path with more views leading back to Hartington and tea and cake in the cafe.
Thanks to all who came and to those offering technical support and historical details. An interesting walk in lovely winter weather and in good company.
