Talked this over with Lynne last night after my brief appearance in the Zoom meeting. We both have fond memories of thriving Thursday night get-togethers, AGM parties, and winter slide shows in the clubroom so it’s very much a part of our CMC identity, and, probably, one we share with other members who were active in the club in the pre-internet age. In those days it provided well used opportunities for signing on for meets, planning trips, and keeping in touch – now, largely redundant. So, it’s a nostalgic view. Clearly, any intent to keep the clubroom must be based on a renaissance in it’s use. That will require a commitment to support and promote clubroom-based activities, and to taking a share in maintenance. As ‘out-of-town’ members, there’s no prospect of our honouring such commitments. So, regardless of whether we’d like to see the clubroom continue, if/when it comes to a vote there’s only one sensible option for us – we will abstain and leave it to members closely involved to juggle the merits of indoor meet alternatives and reach a decision.
