Eleven enthusiastic walkers congregated early at Eyam moor and set off valiantly across the heather and through tunnels of dense bracken. Down through Jubilee Plantation to Nether Bretton, we stopped for our coffee break overlooking Bretton Clough, at the upper edge of a field delightfully sprinkled with thistles and dung. (You just can’t please some people…!)
Past a gorgeously colourful garden at Cockey farm, we picnicked overlooking Abney Low, before striding through Abney and into Abney Clough for more stiles and steep paths down hill to Stokes Ford.
Back up through a jungle of bracken onto Eyam moor, Andy and Mike impressed the rest of the group with their acrobatic skills, manoeuvring through a tight gap in the wall so avoiding yet another stile.
Finally on the home straight across the sandy heath, we had an enjoyable meander over the heather (Calluna vulgaris- thanks Lin 😉) and bell heather ( Erica) back to the start.
A challenging work out for dodgy knees, tackled bravely by all.
Thank you for your cheery company and good humour throughout, rewarded by pleasantly mild weather.
