A bit of a change of scenery from the Peak, east of the M1 (just).
Starting from the quaintly named Laughten-en-le-Morthen the focus of the walk is the Cistercian Roche Abbey coupled with what the guidebook describes as “endless panoramic views”!
The walk is circular, 8 miles long (13km)and includes riverside walking, stepping stones and “the most redundant OS trig point in Britain”! So plenty of interest.
Unlikely that the tea shop at the Abbey will be open, so bring provisions, the pub at the end MAY be open.
According to Google Maps it takes 37 mins to get there via the A57.
Parking at grid ref SK 520881 by the bus stops on School Rd close to junction with High Street. OS Sheet 279 Doncaster South.
Hope to see you there.

Also realised I hadn’t put a start time, so as Gemma’s curry on Saturday night is now later let’s say meet at 10am.A bit of a change of scenery from the Peak, east of the M1 (just).

Instructions to reach the start.
Not difficult to find but as out of the usual familiar Peak area I thought I’d post the details.
Take the A57 towards Worksop (or via Junction 31 of the M1).
From the M1 junction the A57 continues as a dual carriageway. Continue to the first roundabout (Todwick).
TURN LEFT towards Dinnington.
After a mile or two on entering the built up area look out for a huge DHL WAREHOUSE.
TURN LEFT immediately OPPOSITE. this onto ROTHERHAM RD..
Follow this for a short while to a crossroads with a main road.
Cross straight over the main road onto HANGMAN’S LANE.
Very soon a prominent church spire will be seen on a hill.
Travel up the hill entering Laughton-en-le-Morthen, passing a school on the left.
PARK before the crossroads near a bus stop and congregate by the prominent red STOP sign for a 10 am start. Walk is 8 miles.
Cheers
Paul. -
