Join me for a 7 mile walk around Big Moor on Thursday. We will be looking for the red deer so bring binoculars and your usual drinks and lunch. Meet in lay by at GR 277782. There is also parking at Wooden Pole car park or in other road side slots but allow extra time to walk to meeting point.

15 of us battled the strong wind and windchill walking along to White Edge, where we were quickly rewarded with good views of red deer, including a very impressive stag with his females. A few adolescent males looking wistfully in his direction.
Using medieval and eighteenth century marker posts we skirted two bronze age settlements, admired the Autumn colours of grass and bracken and the extensive views across to Gardoms and Chatsworth. Heard stories of daring kayak trips in the now drained reservoirs and didn’t go wild swimming – next time!
A total of 6 miles for those who didn’t climb across the white gate.
    Thanks everyone – great fun.
