Thursday walk 29th July – update

A select group of six of us met at the layby to enjoy a rain free day. There was loads of space, and even on our return, the layby was not full – long may the area continue to be this quiet. A road start led to a snaking trail through the woods, past old quarry workings, passing close to the stone circle (first possible shortcut) then around the top of the quarries to the Earl Grey tower built to commemorate the 1832 Reform Act, where we had elevenses. We continued along the top dropping down a little, into Birchover and back through the woods back via the Corkstone to the 9 ladies stone circle, through Sheepwalk wood and back to Rowsley, where it was decided we deserved coffee and cake at Caudwell Mill cafe.
