18 people and a dog gathered at Curbar Gap on a bright and very breezy morning. We headed south to Wellington Monument then turned left along the track where highland cattle had made a welcome reappearance. An early coffee break was taken where a grassy depression by the wall accommodated most of the team. The predictably boggy approach to Birchen Edge was followed by descent to Robin Hood. 200yds down the road a stile gave access to a pleasant grassy path up to Moorside Rocks, which gave scant shelter from the wind but had a sunny aspect, and was deemed suitable for a lunch stop.
Next came an enjoyable descent through birch woodland and a perilous crossing of the main road at Cupola Cottage. Thence a sustained boggy trudge back up to the end of Baslow Edge. The excellent path under the Edge was followed down until another, much wetter, path lead us back to Curbar Gap.
Approx 6 miles
Thank you all for your company and to Pete for devising the route
