Swaledale is one of the loveliest of the Yorkshire Dales, it feels quite remote and it is an area we don’t often go to. The Pennine Way and Coast to Coast are very near, beautiful walking country. The cycling is famous for the Butter Tub hill on the Tour de France, but lovely quiet roads for great cycling. There is limestone climbing on shorter crags that you would probably get lots of new ticks, Camping at Usha Gap Campsite,DL11 6DW, half way between Muker and Thwaite, and 6 miles from Hawes. the views from the campsite are delightful. We are allowed to bring our own wood for a fire so please bring some along! Well behaved dogs welcome. The Farmer’s Arms is half a mile away in Muker and has good beer and homemade food.
Tents – £7 per adult, £3 per car. Campers including people £15, caravan and car including people £18, no electric hook up. The owner was very pleasant and they have just got a brand new toilet block and seating area with under floor heating! There are picnic benches on the site.
