Thursday is predicted to be a real roaster-possibly the hottest day of the current heat wave.
In the circumstances shade & keeping exertion to the minimum are going to be important.
Fortunately Cressbrook Dale is shaded by woodland as is a good bit of the return path from Cressbrook Village Hall.If the high level path above Tideswell Dale is substituted for the disused tunnels on the Monsal Trail, that too will introduce more sections of shade and coolness.
Incidentally on checking the map I find my previous estimate of the walk’s length at 7.5 miles is a bit of an over estimate and 6.5 miles approx is the correct figure.
So whilst the walk will be a challenge ( particularly the ascent from Litton Mill to Upper Cressbrook) overall conditions shouldn’t be too bad and we will have the prospect of a welcoming tea,ice cream or a beer ( or 2) once we get back to Litton!
See you there.
Mike
