With many members being on holiday etc a reduced number of 7 (no dogs) set out from Calver crossroads and ascended Coombs Dale on a fine, sunny morning. An hours gentle walking led us to Black Harry Gate crossing, scene of many past highway robberies until the culprit was caught and hanged.
After coffee was taken we turned northeast heading towards Stoney Middleton, fine views in all directions. At the lane crossing one of the group left for a pressing appointment with a dentist, descending the steepest high street in England. The remaining 6 followed a good track passing the now unused quarries which have a few bolted climbs for those interested.
We crossed the main road and shortly left the Eyam road to traverse the narrow path leading to the main climbing area at Stoney Middleton where lunch was taken and many reminisces were aired of routes climbed long ago!!!!
Post lunch we walked down through the village passing the octagonal church and pausing at the Roman baths before decision time. The bulk of the group headed back to their cars (6 miles) whilst the meet leader and lady continued onto the riverbank and back via Calver, an extra 2 miles.
Thanks to all who attended. Pics on Facebook soon.
    Paul.
