Sitting in my car below Stanage in decidedly non-summery weather, I was beginning to wonder whether anyone would turn up, but then Hugh arrived, quickly followed by Paul and his 5 year old great-granddaughter Jaycee-May, so the climbing meet was on. Hugh led 4 climbs [thank you Hugh]; supposedly easy grades but challenging enough with initially greasy rock and sometimes minimal protection, and almost blowing a gale as he topped out each time. Paul and Jaycee-May did scrambling and easy slabs, which she did with great aplomb and obvious delight, but a windy chimney proved much less attractive, provoking short-lived tears and much noise [haven’t we all been there!] The sun eventually made a welcome appearance, and then as we were packing up to leave, Mary and Geoff arrived to continue the climbing.
