    Wasdale Meet 4/5 July 2015

When I mentioned that I would be celebrating my 70th
birthday (3rd July 2015) at Wasdale, the committee decided
to make the the weekend 4/5 July a club meet at Wasdale and
put me down to lead it.

Often considered the birthplace of British rock climbing
with the ascent of Napes Needle by Haskett-Smith in 1886,
the area is superb for both climbing and fell-walking. There
are numerous routes of all grades on Scafell, Great Gable,
Pillar etc., including many classic ones.

Although Rosy and I will be staying at the Wasdale Head Inn,
this is basically a camping meet at the campsite next to the
    Inn. The website is http://www.s213669645.websitehome.co.uk/10.html
They do not accept bookings, but the website says space is
not normally a problem other than on Bank Holiday weekends.
I have not camped there but have heard reports that it is OK.
Groups of more than 4 are not allowed so it is best for
everyone to make their own arrangements.

An alternative is the Wasdale National Trust campsite
    http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/article-1356395570326
More facilities, more expensive, less conveniently located
(three quarters of a mile from the Inn) but bookings can be
made. Other options are B&B at Lingmell House or Burnthwaite
Farm, or (for FRCC and CC members) the FRCC hut at
    Brackenclose.

When Rosy and I retired we decided do do all the Wainwrights
    (214) whether we had done them before or not. We have now
almost finished and the plan is do do the last two, Lingmell
and Scafell Pike, on my 70th birthday, Friday 3rd July, and
then celebrate with dinner in the restaurant at the Wasdale
Head Inn. We aim to start about 9am and any Club member who
would like to accompany us, please let me know. Dinner is at
7pm and several people have said they wish to join us. I
have provisionally booked 20 places in the restaurant. If
you would like to be there and have not already let me know,
please could you do so by the end of the May. So far I
have Dave & Linda, Mike & Gill, Frank & Jennifer.

Saturday activities will depend on the weather, and will no
doubt be discussed on Friday evening but if you are unable
to be there until Saturday morning due to work or other
reasons, I suggest meeting at the Inn around 9am. For Saturday
evening, bar meals will be available.
