Report – Thursday Walk 1st February

14 + dog. Windy in Hope promising windier higher up. The normally muddy path was muddier than ever and led through unavoidable muddy puddles. A renowned mudman considered it the muddiest of his muddy experiences. A steady gain in height left the worst mud behind and a coffee stop was taken in the shelter of low gorse bushes. The sun was out and snow covered Lose Hill beckoned us on. However it was clear that a gusty wind would make for slow progress along the ridge. With this in mind a small group decided (wisely) to take the more sheltered, though muddy, contouring path to Brockett Booth plantation where they would await the main group.
It was indeed windy and after a summit pic the ridge party descended carefully with the benefit of glorious views ahead. We were duly reunited with the Brockett – ites only to split again into ridge top path and sheltered bridleway groups. All reached Hollins Cross and a sunny sheltered lunch spot was discovered a few minutes down the Castleton path. Now it was all downhill or flat with more mud along Peakshole water and so back to Hope.
An enjoyable walk made memorable by sunshine and snow.
