The Eagle Ski Club is organising a series of lectures in the Peak District this autumn, which Castle Club members are invited to attend. Food (burgers at the Maynard, or pies at the Plough) will be available in the interval of each evening. Cost £15 with meal, or £5 without. Wed 11 Oct, 6.30pm for 7.0pm, The Maynard, Grindleford: Ski touring and mountaineering in India. John Barnard will describe a 1998 trip to the Kulu Valley, and Steve Wright will describe the club’s successful expedition in 2000 to make a ski ascent of the Kedar Dome.
Thu 2 Nov, 6.30pm for 7.0pm, The Plough Inn, Hathersage: David Hamilton will talk about the third stage of his alpine ski traverse from the Mediterranean to Vienna, this stage covering the Engadine in southeast Switzerland into Austria, earlier this year.
Wed 15 Nov, 6.30pm for 7.0pm, The Plough Inn, Hathersage: Simon Christy will talk about his 2016 ski explorations on Baffin Island in northern Canada
Mon 4 Dec, 6.30pm to 7.0pm, The Plough Inn, Hathersage: Andorra resident Cathy O’Dowd will talk about the ski-touring and ski-mountaineering opportunities in the Pyrenees.
