Seventeen members and two canine companions enjoyed a 5.6 mile circuit from Hay Wood NT car park on an overcast but dry autumn day. We headed down through the wood toward Grindleford, with a pleasant loop through Horse Hay Coppice to avoid arriving too early at the community cafe. There, 7 opted to consume their own beverages on the east side of the church, while 10 sampled tea and coffee from the cafe under a sturdy oak on the west side. After a longer than normal stop we headed upstream beside the Derwent to the cutback ascent in Coppice Wood, stopping for lunch at the convenient boulder seats just before the railway bridge. Path and track took us down to Grindleford station, then the paved steps up to the road. Across on Tedgness Road some did a side excursion to the road end to see Dick and Lin’s old house, while the rest headed up the footpath into Hay Wood, where a steady ascent took us back to the car park. A short but social walk, with autumn colours and assorted fungi. Thanks to everyone for joining in.
