12 of us gathered in Millthorpe in the convenient [but slightly eroded so a few scraped car bottoms] free parking space, ready for this 7 mile anti-clockwise walk, on mainly now familiar paths to this meet leader, so no variations/deviations today. We headed initially uphill towards Holmesfield Common, turning left to take the well-defined path downhill, crossing the Owler Bar to Millthorpe road and then up to Unthank, passing some rather charmimg calves and piglets. The obligatory coffee stop was taken on a grassy bank before entering Meekfield Wood in its splendid autumn colours. Two peeled off in Moorhall for their planned shorter walk, and the rest of us had a lunch stop before continuing towards Barlow Grange. This marked the halfway point of the walk, and the meet leader accidently caused some confusion here, offering an option of taking a path directly back to Millthorpe, which would have definitely shortened the walk. So everyone decided to continue towards Brierly, past the various horse jumps [one like a swan] with views over the Linacre Reservoirs valley, turning east to pass through Overgreen, then northwards through Oxton Rakes [more horses], Rumbling Street and the sunken track back to our cars in Millthorpe, arriving at 4pm. There seemed to be numerous, sometimes challenging, stiles to cope with on this walk, a number of either well-camouflaged or fallen over sign-posts to confuse us, stunning flower beds where least expected and various friendly horses and donkeys.
The human company was quite friendly too, so thank you everyone.
