Meet in Hathersage, at Ashleigh, Crossland Rd.
We’ll walk to Leadmill bridge, ascend gently through fields and woods and then descend to the stepping stones. Crossing these, we’ll follow a loop via Gatehouse Farm to Green’s house and back to our starting point, for tea and cake.
(If it has been very wet we’ll change the route to avoid the stepping stones!)

Looking for a lift out, if anyone is going from near abbeydale or woodseats? Thanks Linda

It seems traditional to account for people and dogs in the opening sentence; unfortunately we forgot to count the people, but remember there were two dogs…

This was a rather shortened walk to avoid a repetition of Fair Flora’s demise at the Derwent stepping stones (see Sean’s recent Thursday walk report)… Starting from Crossland Road and passing the Hathersage allotments, we ascended to Birley farm and then took the permissive path from the junction of Coggers and Birley lanes, with beautiful views along the Hope Valley, to Gatehouses, Outland and Green’s House via the site of the old pub, returning to Hathersage via Cowclose farm – the dairy producing Stanage Millstone cheese.

The five and a half miles of the walk appeared to be enough to justify several cakes at Kathy and John’s afterwards.
Thanks to everyone who came along and great to see Rosie back for a full walk.

In addition to the two dogs, there were 13 humans. Andy
