18 members met at Ashford-in-the Water.
it being Armistice day we honoured the 2 minute silence-the majority in the village church yard-before starting the walk.
The early sunshine for those of us setting out from Sheffield had been replaced by general murk and cloud. As we approached Monsal Head it cleared slightly, allowing us to enjoy a bit of the view over the customary morning coffee stop.
However descending into Monsal Dale we were greeted by the murk again which had obviously set in for the day. After crossing the A6 we stopped for lunch in a sheltered spot below the path junction for Deep Dale.
Setting out again our numbers reduced by one when Martin headed back to Ashford through the woods. The remainder ascended Deep Dale and took the steep climb eastwards to exit the Dale half way up.Field paths then led us to a gloomy and misty Sheldon.
A descent by the edge of little Shacklow wood then led to the valley floor and the return to Ashford.
A pleasant day’s walk, although the weather didn’t quite live up to expectations.
Thanks to those who came and for your company.
