Eleven of us gathered by the stile on the road below Bamford Edge, to repeat a walk I’d led in September 2013. Having negotiated the head high bracken flopping over the path, we emerged onto open moorland and successfully found the small stone circle, before squelching over marshland and leaping a ditch. Then an easy way up to the path contouring below Stanage for the obligatory midday coffee stop, before a short walk along the A57/Manchester road to the Strines road. A convenient wall provided shelter from the cold head wind for lunch on the way to Cutthroat Bridge. A good track and then path skirted Bamford Moor, with views of a rather empty Ladybower Reservoir [so exposing far more of the viaduct arches than are normally seen]. John briefly diverted to investigate the isolated square ‘plinth’ and entertained us with various statuesque poses whilst precariously balanced on its top. Then a short walk in increasing wind along for the top of Bamford Edge, before arriving back at our cars just as it started to rain. According to Andy’s GPS – 7.4 miles in 4 hours.
