10 of us set of from Pete & Jane’s in Wingerworth descending firstly through the very muddy Speighthill Woods,
before crossing Langer Lane and ascending in some light drizzle to Chesterfield’s Golf Club House. We then walked down to Walton Woods where coffee was taken on some conveniently placed tree trunks. Luckily the drizzle had stopped. After climbing through Walton Woods, again very muddy, we crossed Swathwick Lane, slipped our way down to Trickett Brook before climbing some steps to a mini ridge which led us down to the lunch stop at the Great Pond Of Stubbing (really a lake). A robin plus ducks, moorhens and geese all benefitted from the bread fed by our number.
Our next point of interest was Billy’s grave and headstone on Lavender Hill, constructed in memory of the local farmer. Apparently buried there so he could keep an eye on how the farm was being run! From here we climbed up the long steep lane to the top of Bole Hill then descended through Hardwick woods past a disused quarry before eventually returning to no 15.
    6.75 miles by Andy’s GPS.
The leader then provided tea and “stickys”
Thanks to all for your company. Great to do a walk from our house. Pete
