Six members gathered as Peak Forest. It was raining, with
low cloud, and it rained all day. But it takes more than a
spot of rain to deter CMC Thursday Walkers. We headed south
past Damside Farm and across the old dam to reach the
first of a series of stiles of varying degrees of challenge,
including one on which barbed wire had been inconsiderately
positioned. Some stone steps led us away from Dam Dale and
across several fields, eventually reaching the Limestone Way
and our last stile of the day. We followed the Way past
Mount Pleasant Farm to The Cop. From here the Limestone Way
followed a wall uphill, and we had our lunch break in a
small quarry near the top. Afterwards we climbed to the
trig point marking the summit of Bradwell. Moor. 0This can
be an excellent viewpoint, but not today. After a hasty
group photograph we returned to the relative shelter of the
wall. After a further short stretch on the Limestone Way
we left it to head back to Peak Forest, via Oxlow Rake,
welcoming the stony track as a change from the slippery
limestone mud. 5.5 miles 640 ft of ascent.
Thanks to those who came.
The company was great; the weather not so much.
