An enthusiastic group of 16 gathered on Ladybower Viaduct in rather grey conditions for a walk over Crook Hills. It was a bit like the firt day of a school term with news about trips to Spain, Sri Lanka, Scotland and even Skegness.. After crossing the Viaduct, we set off upwards in dry conditions but hit the strong wind on the first of the Crook Hills. No time to linger. The wind proved a bit of battle over both summits, but we dropped downwards and soon found two cosy hollows for a coffee stop.. By now the wind was bearable but still strong enough to blow a sitmat over the wall and off towards the reservoir. Most people donned over-trousers here as rain seemed imminent – a wise move.
Although wetter, the going was now much easier as we headed towards Lockerbrook. In spite of the dark clouds the visibility was still good with impressive views of Kinder and the Snake Valley. We headed down the woods where we managed to find a dryish spot under the trees for lunch. WE crossed the road to Fairholmes where we took advantage of their excellent facilities.
We were now bowling along the road enjoying plenty of chat, drifts ofsnowdrops and almost no rain. The last section back to the road seemed no trouble at all. Thank you for your company, for sharing all your news and for your enthusiasm. Special thanks to Gordon for being today’s backstop.
