I stood in Ashford-in-the-Water in pouring rain listening to the church clock striking 11 oclock and considering my options: 1. Do the walk alone 2. Go home…..At that point 4 members in full wet gear jumped out of their cars to join me. Option 2 was abandoned and it was quickly decided to cut the walk short in view of the worsening weather conditions.
So 5 of us set off along the very full river as the heavy rain and sleet turned to snow. We walked up through Shacklow woods on one of the 4 paths that lead up to Sheldon village. A quick coffee break took place among the copper beeches which offered some protection from the weather. See photo on WhatsApp.
After completed the steep path through the woods we emerged onto fields now covered by a thin layer of snow. The an easy walk downhill to Ashford where a late lunch was consumed in warm and dry conditions.
Thank you to my fellow walkers, we had a cheery time in spite of the weather and it was good to get out. Thankfully everyone made it back to Sheffield without incident.
