The club has a stock of communal equipment which is available for members to borrow. This includes helmets, harnesses and winter climbing equipment which are stored in the clubroom. A full list of equipment can be found in the member’s area of the club website. To borrow equipment please contact an equipment custodian (Gordon Riley or Paul Embley) or a member of the committee.
Please note that, owing to BMC Club Insurance requirements, club equipment can only be used by club members and on official club meets.
Club members borrowing equipment are expected to:
• Sign equipment in and out with an equipment custodian or committee member.
• Confirm that they know how to use and look after the equipment and if necessary seek advice from the equipment custodians or an experienced club member.
• Check equipment for damage or faults before and after use. Report any possible equipment damage or faults to an equipment custodian or a committee member.
• Ensure that equipment is clean and dry before it is returned to storage.
• Members beginning their climbing career will be expected to buy their own helmet and harness rather than relying long-term on borrowing club equipment. The equipment team will be available to give advice on suitable items.
We are planning to run some training sessions on care of club and personal equipment. Please contact Gordon or Paul E directly for more information. The club policy for equipment is available in the member’s area of the website.
