A cold north wind which had blown for several days was still in evidence as our party of 9 made its way along the Snake Path to Ashop Head. It was a dry day but mainly overcast with only brief sunny spells and during one of these we paused for coffee. Most wore fleeces and windproofs but shorts and shirt sleeves were sported by the hot – blooded. A reasonably sheltered lunch spot was discovered among the first rocks on The Edge and then it was heads down into the wind and on to Fairbrook Naze along the surprisingly dry path. There was much speculation on the feasibility of a certain member’s itinerary for the Haute Route before we partook of refreshments in the Snake Inn.
