24 people and the usual dog were pleased to depart from the cold Cutthroat layby and emerge into sunshine, the warmth of which was tempered by a cold north wind. After crossing the A57 and Highshaw Clough the gently rising path was followed towards Moscar House before taking a sharp left leading to a line of grouse butts and a recently roughly resurfaced track. About 20 minutes of gradual ascent lead to quite a smart butt where a short coffee break was enjoyed.
From there a further short ascent lead to the crest of Derwent Edge which was crossed on a pleasant path which soon descended to a sheltered and sunny lunch spot behind Grindle Barn. (Brownie Points).
The now paved path soon dropped down to the lane on the east side of Ladybower Res. which lead southwards almost to the main road. This was avoided by the path leading behind the Ladybower Inn via one rather boggy section (Brownie Points deducted). One last ascent alongside Ladybower Wood gained the path back to Cutthroat Bridge and the starting point.
The frozen ground was a welcome change from recent muddy conditions and a sunny day was enjoyed by all.
    Thanks for your company,
    Frank and Jennifer
