Twelve members and a dog set off from Litton in lovely
summer weather – appropriate as it was the official first day
of summer. Heading down Tansley Dale, we noted a fine
display of early purple orchids. The route continued through
Cressbrook Dale to Cressbrook Mill where we paused for a
coffee break. An encounter with a tyre suspended over the
mill stream resulted in a minor injury not predicted by the
risk assessment. A pleasant walk through Water-cum-Jolly
Dale and Millers Dale followed; we paused at one point to
watch the trout in the river. We soon arrived at Litton Mill
and found a lunch venue well equipped with benches, table
and chairs – a children’s play area. We strolled up
Tideswell Dale, pausing at the car park to take advantage of
the facilities. The final leg of the walk was up Litton
Dale, soon leaving the road by a path heading uphill through
fields back to the starting point. An easy but enjoyable
walk of six miles which we rounded off by enjoying tea and
cakes outside the Litton shop.
