16 members in three different groups walked, in various directions, around the village of Sheldon without actually going into the village! The walk included Magpie Mine and discussions on the history of lead mining ; Shacklow woods and Ashford marble workings and Deepdale. The weather was dry, but blustery and we spotted a pair of buzzards and a number of sky larks. The flowers are starting to come out; celandines and wood anemones mostly and wild garlic leaves in profusion. The walk was around six and a half miles while Linda’s group, mysteriously, counted several more miles!
Thanks to all who participated , it was good to see you all.
Also thanks to the ‘volunteer leaders’, John and Linda M.
A good day out and, I hope, the first of many.
