Walk Report
13 of us set off under a threatening sky going west along the Limestone Way.
We crossed a few fields before reaching the steep and lengthy staircase down in to Cales Dale.
A brief hail shower was encountered on the descent but luckily not enough precipitation to make the polished limestone steps slippery.
A variety of wild flowers were encountered here including several orchids.
Coffee break taken (see WhatsApp walking page pic) at the junction with Lathkill Dale.
Just on from the junction we came across a large number of felled ash trees where no attempt had been made to clear them. Unfortunately the mess created is somewhat detrimental to the otherwise serenity of
the Dale.
Very pleasant walking did follow though through to the old mill where we said goodbye to Andy & Rosy who were doing a shorter walk.
After passing a number of DOE groups we stopped for lunch at the first unwooded section. (See also pic)
Near the end of the Dale we took a track up to Youlgreave and looked in the splendid church there.
A descent followed down to Bradford Dale where we preceded west passing a number of school children wading in the old river swimming pool under the guidance of a rather distraught teacher! Many ducklings were also spotted in the river.
Some distant later we started the steep ascent all the way back to the cars.
A big bonus on the walk was the fact the adverse weather forecast didn’t materialise.
Thanks to all for joining me on a most enjoyable walk.
