And forgot to say that all cars parked on the road side NOt completely in the designated bays were given fixed penalty notices . Probably considerably more than £2.00 .

Interest already. Just so that people know what’s happening can people post if they are planning to spend a few extra days there.
Also to make it easier please can you book yourselves in, that way you can sort your own dates and electric etc
Chris, Ive booked you and Jo in when I made our booking – tent with electric the two days.
    Other interest from
    Dick and Lin
    Hazel and Steve
    Gordon and Maya.
( The campsite doesn’t offer room for ponies but I didnt ask about parrots!)

It was ok. Came in at under 30 and there were complaints from the crew who felt cheated of half a mile.
Castleton, Sparrow Pit, Wash , Chapel Milton, Eccles Pike, Chapel, Dove Holes, Smalldale and back
Stonking downs, sublime views and a new cafe.
Glad to say all the other elements of a castle bike ride were there too: inappropriate comments, a tea shop, a lost person, and first-up-every-hill-Andrew wanting to take short cuts home.
    3600ft of ascent.

11 people (including 4 from Derwent MC) did a quite good walk from Holloway. From Holloway we made our way down to the Cromford canal via the Dukes Quarry, once leased by Leon’s employer Wildgoose Construction.. Then up again for more views and back down to canal before a final pull up to Riber Castle which was built by John Smedley, mill owner. Smedley’s is still going and on Sunday we learnt that they are the manufacturers of the Queen’s knickers. Back to Holloway via the gorgeous hamlet of Dethick, home of the Babingtons, one of whom was beheaded by Queen Elizabeth I for plotting to put Mary Queen of Scots on the throne
A fitting International WOmen’s day walk as it passed the birthplaces of Florence Nightingale (nurse and statistician) and Alison Uttley author of a number of children’s books. She won a scholarship to Manchester University to read physics and in 1906 she became the second woman honours graduate of the university.
Apologies for those who came for the blip in map reading before lunch.

    Important Update
    I’ve consulted some locals
Meet at 10.00 and park just north of Holloway on the road which goes through the village.. Park just opposite the cemetery SK 323 568
Also the B road from Cromford which follows the Derwent is closed. Access Holloway either from the North or via Whatstandwell.
    10.15 start
See you there Chris and Jo
PS. There will be lots of photo comp opps.

It depends, I’ll look at forecast nearer the time. If the animals back home are at risk I will stay at home. But will pay whatever.
    Shame I was looking forward
After Dennis the next is Storm Ellen (spelt wrong).

David, Bill and I did the Balderstones reservoir mtb ride, the one that is cyclable from the hut, last year. Sadly as a mtb route it wasn’t the best, scenery lovely though.
The others are a bit away, and I would like to do Cross fell but it is a drive. We’ve got a county Durham mtb book and we think that a route around Hammersterley forest could be adapted to do from the hut for anyone who wants to mtb. Lots of potential for road biking or trails. Fingers crossed for a nice , cold, dry spell.
    Looking forward to it.
    Bill and Elen.

Anyone going to Kildare fancy a shared meal. Sue has offered up a coconut vegan curry. I’ll bring salad and pud. Bring something to share and join in.

Re Thornbridge Hall Gardens Wednesday 24th
Ok lets meet at 9.45am at the garden gates. Marianne, does this fit in with your school run??
I think it is an RHS partner garden
It is £7 per person (gone up a bit since I was last there). Carers get in free!
