Poppy + 9 others enjoyed this gentle pastoral stroll from Rowsley. The initial uphill section was soon completed and a steady descent past Bowling Green Farm led to a grassy coffee stop. A DoE group performed sterling work in trampling down vegetation along the riverside path and we emerged largely unscathed at Haddon Hall. A gentle ascent across fields brought us to a lunch stop by a convenient stone wall where the DoE group leapfrogged us. We continued in the direction of Alport passing the sizeable Shiningbank Quarry with its turquoise pools. Across the road we located the shady stepped start to a path leading up a hawthorne – lined muddy lane which eventually gave way to fields and the lane to Stanton in Peak. Another short break was taken at the seats by the war memorial before a stroll down the fields where one member used to run in the (distant ?} past. A short ascent to Congreave was followed by a pleasant walk back to the cars.
    Thank you all for coming,
    Frank
