16 of us met by the Norfolk Arms,Ringinglow, in slightly cloudy conditions,but with the promise of sunshine to come.
The Lady Canning Plantation was soon crossed and we then walked over the moor to the disused Brown Edge quarries and then on to the concessionary path towards Rud Hill.
The stone shelter(or shooting butt) provided a convenient location for our tea break- although only only 3 of us were able to use it!By now the sun was shining and there was an impressive distant view of Sheffield.
Off again ,we crossed the moor to Redmires reservoir without any of the usual muddy bog trot-the ground was tinder dry!
Traversing the southern edge of the reservoirs we stopped for lunch close to the water’s edge.A passing lone walker turned out to be Dave Jenks who joined us for a lengthy chat.
Lunch over we continued on the Redmires Conduit and the adjacent wood.The field path then led to Brown Hills Lane and Bole Hill, the descent into the Mayfield Valley and the pretty Workhouse Cottages by the stream.
Passing May House and Clough Lane we had the final horror -a steep hill climb- to reach the Norfolk Arms.
The majority of the team -joined by Charles (who David & Linda had kindly offered to to collect) then transferred to the Doyle residence on Canterbury Avenue for tea,coffee,cakes and scones in the garden.Copious cups of tea and coffee were then consumed
A very convivial end to the day and start of my forthcoming birthday celebrations.
