Meet at the road-side parking in Shatton (GR 203825) for the normal 11.00 a.m. start. We will make an ascent of Win Hill, via Thornhill, descending via Aston, past Hope station, through Brough and and along Townfield Lane.

About 9 kms, or 6 miles, and with 300 metres of ascent. Be prepared for some mud!

    See you there.

    Martin and Pat.

    Thursday 4th July Meet Report

Fifteen humans and one small canine gathered at Shatton on a glorious summers day, for a gentle walk up scenic paths to the summit of Win Hill. Surprisingly, there were several sections of path on the walk that had not been walked before by a number of the team. A “coffee stop with a view” was taken halfway up the ridge, and featured both shady and sunny options with a pleasant breeze. The feeling of relaxed enjoyment persisted throughout the walk, despite a final steep climb up to the top of Win Hill, where lunch was taken. Sheltered spots were found, as the breeze was a little keener here.

The descent, initially quite steep, upset a few knees, but they had settled down again by the time we had passed Aston and crossed the railway line at Hope station. A grade 5 stone stile at Brough was conquered by all without aid (only grade 2 for people with long legs!). Not many walks in the Peak pass a moored yacht, but this one did, near Townfield Lane – the pond it is moored on is not much bigger than the yacht! A finish across freshly mown fields led back to the cars, where the canine team member was glad to dive into the shade of a parked car to cool off.

Sorry, John, to hear of your foot problem, and we hope it is better soon, and you are back out on the Thursday walks. Thank you to all of you who joined Pat and I – we really enjoyed it. According to Sean’s GPS it was 6.06 miles.
