7 of us set out from Litton on a slightly overcast morning, but with no rain and temperatures a lot more comfortable than of late.
The going was dry and we were soon down Tansley Dale and descending Cressbrook Dale.Onwards and downwards we went passing the Cressbrook Cottages and stopping for tea at the junction with the road.
Reaching the bottom our number became 6 when John M took the low level route through Water-cum -Jolley.
The remaining 6 took the high level traverse, but were faced with the day’s biggest challenge-crossing the somewhat dodgy bridge by the weir!
Once successfully over this we completed the traverse, enjoying the dramatic views of the valley below and the surrounding area.We stopped for lunch by a small cave entrance high above Litton Mill before descending steeply to the disused railway and from there to the mill itself.
A steady ascent then took us to the entrance to Cressbrook Village festooned with “Save Cressbrook Dale” notices and a copy of a temporary Stop Notice issued and served on a number of individuals by the Peak District National Park (for details go to “savecressbrookdale.co.uk”).
We then completed the walk by the woodland and field path back to Litton.
Thanks to those of you who came and for your company.
    Mike D
